Brocton go nap again

Saturday 30th November

Midland Football League Premier Division

Brocton 5 Studley 0

Brocton were forced into two changes with Reg Smith and Tony Allsopp both unavailable. Mackenzi Wilson came in between the sticks for his league debut while Cam Osborne took his place on the right with Christian Blanchette moving into the centre. Studley came into the game in 8th place with some impressive wins on the road.

The first chance fell to Brocton in the 6th minute. Will Whieldon won the ball on the right and played a low ball into Blanchette who was blocked in the 6-yard box. Studley’s first effort came from a left wing cross from Harry Eden which was headed wide by Elliott Lees. Brocton took the lead in the 9th minute. Charlie King threaded the ball into the path of Whieldon who beat the advancing keeper Tom Carter with ease. Studley went close to an equaliser in the 15th minute when a corner from Nate Timbrell beat everyone, and the far post. Brocton were playing sumptuous football. Charlie King and Blanchette combined with Carter saving bravely at the feet of King. In the 23rd minute, a move of the highest quality saw the Studley keeper brought into action again. Ben Haddaway played the ball over the top of the defender to Whieldon. His cross was dummied by Blanchette and Connor Haddaway hit it first time to be denied by a superb save from Carter. Two minutes later, the Studley keeper was at it again. Conner Haddaway played the ball to Charlie King who, in turn played it inside to Blanchette and his shot was brilliantly saved by Carter. Carter was keeping Studley in the game, and he raced off his line to head the ball away from Whieldon. Brocton should have doubled their lead in the 29th minute. A pinpoint cross from Conner Haddaway picked out Jake Thomas but his volley was snatched and off target. Studley went close in the 33rd minute. A header from Simcox failed to reach Wilson, Kyle Moseley got there first but missed the target. Brocton made them pay with a second goal in the 38th minute. More fantastic approach play saw King tee up Blanchette. His first shot was saved but he tapped home the rebound. Moseley was just wide with an effort for Studley as they ended the half with it all to do.

Half-Time: Brocton 2 Studley 0

Studley came out for the second half with more of an edge. In the 54th minute, Jamie Spiers played the ball inside to Moseley and his shot shaved the post. The effort seemed to reinvigorate the home side who soon regained command. Adam Weldon found Whieldon and his cross was inches away from the lunge of Thomas in front of goal. Wilson finally had a shot to save in the 62nd minute, Ashton de Mulder’s effort easily caught by the debutant keeper. In the 72nd minute, Charlie King played an exquisite crossfield ball into the path of Whieldon, who cut inside and forced an excellent save from Carter. In the 84th minute, Brocton grabbed their third. Eden, under pressure from Morgan Payne, sent a heavy pass back to Carter. The Studley keeper somehow let the ball go through him and into the net. The third goal lit the blue touch paper and Brocton went hunting more goals. In the 88th minute, a superb left wing cross from Jude King reached Whieldon, who took his time and fired past Carter. Just into stoppage time the roles were reversed. Whieldon picked out Jude King in space. The 16 year old, controlled the ball slipped his defender and finished calmly for his first senior goal at Silkmore Lane. A fitting end to a superb Brocton performance.
