Cheadle Heath Nomads 5 Brocton 1 at The ProSeal Stadium

Brocton made two changes to the side that beat St Martins on Saturday. Kenny Devoir and Jamie Weldon came in to the starting line-up in place of Ryan Douglas and Ben Haddaway who dropped to the bench.

The home side started on the front foot and were ahead inside two minutes. A quick break from leading scorer Daniel McLaughlin was stopped by a good block from Ben Powell. From the resulting corner William Shawcross cut-inside, glided past Adam Weldon and picked hi spot in the top corner giving Tony Allsopp no chance. Two minutes later, Shawcross dummied Jamie Weldon to create space and his low shot was saved by Allsopp. A mistake by Allsopp gave the ball to Shawcross, he picked out McLaughlin, but Allsopp redeemed his error with a fine save with his legs. Brocton were close to an equaliser in the 1tth minute. Malaki Norford played the ball into the penalty area, where Dean Williams headed it goalwards with the ball cannoning off the crossbar. Shawcross was proving to be a real thorn in Brocton’s side and another fierce shot was fumbled by Allsopp but gathered at the second attempt. Brocton were proving a threat going forward and Jamie Weldon cleared the bar after he had made space. The equaliser came in the 26th minute. Good approach play saw Jake Thomas play the ball into the path of Cameron Osborne and his finish was too good for nomads Keeper Adam Rigby. On the half-hour mark, Brocton wasted a great chance to take the lead. Kenny Devoir crossed to the far post to the unmarked Thomas who could only plant his header into the side-netting. Brocton were made to pay for the miss as Nomads scored three goals in five minutes. Allsopp made a fine save to thwart Kyle Foley, but the ball fell invitingly for Shawcross, and his finish surpassed his opener, perfectly placed into the top left hand corner. Shawcross turned provider in the33rd minute, laying the ball into the path of Charlie Mulgrew, who controlled the ball and fired home after picking his spot. Goal number four was created by the impressive Kieran Alley who crossed from the left to give McLaughlin the simplest task of tapping home. Brocton heads did not drop, and Osborne saw a shot saved following an excellent through ball from Adam Weldon. Nomads’ centre-back Callum Evans was just off target with a drive and the half finished with that man Shawcross running at the Brocton defence and curling his shot a foot wide.

Nomads continued to strive for more goals. A minute into the second half, a shot on the turn from Foley cleared the Brocton bar. A misplaced pass by Thomas gave possession to Alley but his shot was well wide of the target. Alley was finding acres of space on the left and another direct run was cleared for a corner. Nomads grabbed their fifth in the 58th minute. Shawcross slid the ball into the path of McLaughlin and the big striker was brought down by Allsopp as he rounded the keeper. Shawcross stepped up to convert the penalty for his hat-trick. McLaughlin forced a save from Allsopp before Brocton went close when Thomas headed over the bar from a Ben Haddaway cross. The best move of the game down the Nomads left created a chance for Foley and he hit the post with Allsopp beaten. Foley, twice, and Shawcross were both off target with efforts as the game remained open. With ten minutes left, a fantastic cross field ball from Thomas picked out Osborne and his shot was well saved by Rigby. With time running out, Foley played the ball through to Alley, but he was again thwarted by a superb Allsopp save. Both Evans and Alley were off target with further efforts before the referee blew for full-time.
